About Purple Party

The network where being wrong in public, and fixing it, is the highest-status act.

Everywhere else, ranking optimises engagement, and engagement is maximised by conflict. Purple Party ranks by how far agreement travels across the divide, adjudicates factual claims with a panel rather than a crowd, and keeps the record of who changed their mind.

Purpose

Almost nobody changes their mind in public any more, because the cost of doing it is humiliation and the reward is nothing. Purple Party exists to invert that price.

The mechanism is not persuasion and it is not moderation. It is bookkeeping: every claim carries whether it has been challenged, every essay carries the objections raised against it, every member carries the record of what they got wrong and fixed. Where other networks make certainty cheap and revision expensive, this one is built to do the opposite — and the whole product is downstream of that one trade.

Mission

Build the place where people who can change their minds can find each other, and give them the instruments to argue well.

Select for it
Membership is earned through an intellectual-honesty assessment, not bought and not granted by invitation alone. The population is the product. See the instrument.
Rank for it
Ordering is by how far agreement spreads across the divide, never by volume or engagement. A ranking function is a statement of values whether or not anyone admits it.
Adjudicate honestly
Factual claims go to a panel of models from several providers, which is allowed to answer “contested” or “not adjudicable” — and on political questions usually will.
Record the change
Corrections, revisions and updates are kept, attributed and made navigable. The record is the credential.
Vision

A network where the highest-status members are the ones with the longest correction records, and where that is unremarkable.

If this works, a member reads an essay and checks the objections before the thesis. A claim with no challenges against it looks thin rather than clean. Someone announces they were wrong for nine years and the response is interest rather than a screenshot. The test is not whether people agree more — it is whether they can say precisely where they disagree, and what evidence would move them.

The failure mode is a network that merely feels civil. Civility is easy to manufacture and worth very little. What is being attempted here is harder and narrower: making it cheap to be wrong out loud.

Principles

Four rules that decide the arguments the rest of the product has.

Ranking
A post two opposed people both find worthwhile beats a post five hundred allies cheer.
Adjudication
Factual claims go to a panel of models from three providers. It is allowed to return “contested”.
Standing
An essay's standing comes from the objections raised against it, and how the author answered them.
Never build the dunk
No ratios, no quote-dunks, no shareable receipts. Humiliation raises the cost of changing your mind.

The five surfaces

Each one is live. Click into anything.

One

The feed

Ranked by how far agreement spreads rather than how much of it there is. Every post that makes a factual claim carries its adjudication status in the open — held up, contested, corrected by the author, or never examined at all.

Open the feed
Worth trying
  • Open a brief on a contested claim and read the evidence on both sides.
  • Hover an author for how the two of you relate — not a biography.
  • Turn on “Across the aisle” in the native filters.
Two

The update feed

A plain chronological record of members changing their positions, with the reason attached to each one. Nothing else is on the page — no reactions, no reply counts, no ordering by anything but time. The unremarkableness is the point.

Open the updates
Worth trying
  • Filter to updates that crossed a cluster line — two in three qualify.
  • Open the adjudication behind Ivo’s update, and the essay diff behind Nadia’s.
  • Read Marcus’s last entry: someone updating about an opponent’s good faith, not a fact.
Three

The essay browser

Long-form arguments with discussion attached to individual sections, and a standing that reflects what survived challenge. Wikipedia converges on one neutral text; this keeps the disagreement, attributed and navigable.

Open the library
Worth trying
  • Read a tested essay, then switch to the unexamined one for contrast.
  • Open the disagreement map — one question, everyone writing on it.
  • Filter to “Unanswered” for the strongest objections still waiting.
Four

Polls and surveys

Answer first, then the crosstabs unlock. Calibration polls ask questions with a true numeric answer, and reliably find that everyone is wrong — across every group. That is the strongest bridging mechanic in the research.

Open the polls
Worth trying
  • Answer a calibration poll before looking at anything.
  • Skip one, and watch that it stays locked rather than unlocking.
  • Read what the model panel said, and what moved it.
Five

The profile

Assessment results as bands rather than points, because a point would be more precise than the evidence. Each dimension is published one at a time, by choice, alongside things the member actually did — corrections made, Turing tests passed, steelman ratings from people who disagree with them.

Open a profile
Worth trying
  • Compare Marcus, whose results are unusual, with Dana, who sits near the median.
  • Turn your own intake off and watch the comparisons go blank rather than guess.
  • Read the opener drawn from where you two differ.

How to read this model

Everything here runs in the browser. There is no server, no account, and nothing is sent anywhere — actions that would hit a backend say so instead of pretending. What is real is the shape: the ranking language, the adjudication ledger, the response gate, the disclosure controls, and the copy that has to carry all of it.

States
Each surface was drawn for more than one situation. The States button, bottom right of any surface, switches between them in place.
What is missing
The intake questionnaire, the forecast ledger and the steelman exchange are specified but not drawn yet. They are next.
The people
Every member, post, essay, poll and citation is invented for this walkthrough. The research behind the mechanics is not.
